Jane

This is a judgment free zone, right?

I've never read Jane Eyre.  I love to read, and I've never read it.  Actually, there are probably quite a few classics I've never read.  Please don't poo-poo me.

Granted, there are many I HAVE read, but obviously, there are more I haven't.

I started Jane Eyre last weekend, and read a good bit of it yesterday, and plan to finish today.  I am really enjoying it, and I'm not just saying that in order to sound all cerebral.   Taylor groaned when I told her I was reading it, she had flashbacks from reading it in high school.

My favorite book from high school, other than To Kill A Mockingbird, was, "The Once and Future King."  Did any of you read that?  I can read me a King Arthur story any day of the week.  Did you have a favorite from school?

So, when I'm finished with Jane, what should I read next?  I mean, classic-wise.  What would you suggest?

Update on the Word Verification/Spam war:  I've decided to take that stupid thing off again.  I will NOT let the spammers defeat me.  I will be victorious!  (All that means is that I'll ignore them.  Woo, so scary!)

A Tale of Two Cities.

Les Miserables.

Both fantastic.

If you want to be really impressive, you could read Les Miserables in French....just sayin'....

Wuthering Heights. I read that a few months ago, also A Tale Of Two Cities, Great Expectations, Little Women (I felt it is geared to a much younger person), and To Kill A Mockingbird is also a fave of mine. I had English Lit in high school but the teacher was Shakespeare-crazy so we didn't dwell on the classics. I am trying to catch up.

I'm so glad you're liking Jane Eyre--it's one of my very favorites! Please read Madame Bovary, if you haven't. It bogs down in places, but it's really interesting because she is a very unsympathetic main character--and it's considered by many to be the first "modern" novel. And Jane Austen, of course! If you're up for poetry, Emily Dickinson...just immerse yourself in it. I have lots more, but I'll stop now! Literature geek here!

It's funny you wrote this. Last summer I decided to go back and read some of the classics I had read in High School. As much as they were somewhat enjoyable back then, they are far better now.

One of my favorite writers is Steinbeck so I started through his again. You have to enjoy very descriptive writing here but my fav was The Grapes of Wrath.

Well,,I suppose you could poo-poo me because I don't have a suggestion on classics

I don't know where I was but I can tell you it wasn't in the library

You have some wonderful suggestions from other blogging buddies so I'm sure you'll be turning the pages soon...

Jordan has to read that for summer reading.

I love Count of Monte Cristo, Little Women, and Pride & Prejudice.

Of course right now I'm reading a $2.99 thriller on my kindle.
